A Thanet Watch

Other than offering useful gadgets and you'll see I have a new poll on my sidebar today (please vote if you have any views on Nigel Farage's speech), Blogger produces all kinds of interesting statistics on where visitors are coming from and what they are looking for. I keep a regular eye on these on a daily basis, as from time to time it can offer useful intelligence on a local story or event I'm not aware of.

Some of these can really be quite bizarre or very seedy indeed. So for example, having once mentioned a police raid raid on a brothel in the Canterbury Road in Westbrook, it stands to reason, that searches for local brothels land on my front page and simply mentioning it again here, will reinforce the search-engine traffic from both Google and Bing. So perhaps I'm in the wrong business!

Today, the 'intelligence chatter' suggests something else and that's antisemitism or more accurately, someone is putting in key words and searching through Thanet Life, trying to discover if antisemitic remarks have been made here, at any point in time, against one of our local councillors; among them, searching for any incidence of a racist phrase in a song from a Sasha Baron Cohen movie; 'Borat'.

So, to save on any more wasted energy on the part of the researcher involved, it's not a subject I would tolerate but it does remind me of something else, particularly given the somewhat light-hearted discussion elsewhere on the blogs over whether the island's latest 'Red Top' newspaper, 'Thanet Watch', is funded by the North Koreans!

So here's a short public information film should you ever be tempted to buy a copy. I do realise, that several of the leading characters or is that usual suspects, may look a little familiar if you live in Broadstairs.

Simon I Googled - westgate on sea brothel – and you do indeed come up on the first page, my highest search score is for - tracey emin – I don’t come up for - ramsgate brothel – at all although ECR comes up on the fist page which only goes to show.

I will be accepting advertising from high-class establishments very soon and perhaps you can write a local history. Pity to see a good business opportunity pass but I'm not here how it fits into the local economic development plan. Perhaps TIG know?

See over on the TIG blog they maintain it is an offence to use abusive or threatening words in print as well as sppech with dire consequences awaiting the perpetrators of such. Wonder if category of abusive or threatening includes calling people racist or homophobic on not a scrap of evidence or even inviting a fellow councillor outside.

One law for the TIGs and another for the rest of us it would seem. After all, I was dubbed homophobic and threatened with being reported to God knows where simply for being opposed to gay marriage.

Just had a quick look at the latest output from Tiggy Towers. The repeated use of the word 'forbidden' rather than 'illegal' caused a wry smile. Are we all headed for room 101?

Simon I know of a local art gallery that has an erotic art exhibition starting this month, perhaps they would be interested in advertising.

The exhibition's central themes will be of paintings, sketches and watercolours of erotic subjects by Tracey Emin as well as JMW Turner and Auguste Rodin.

I wonder if they are going to hold any practical workshops, I am certainly considering an adult content blog for the duration of the exhibition, I was thinking of perhaps a few erotic sketches featuring local worthies, would be interesting. Perhaps a spot the likeness competition.

Might be a bit risque but I suspect Peter Checksfield is well ahead of you!

Gotta love the JB and RG dinosaurs in a psuedo sexual pose! Do you think it was chosen particularly?

My comments don't make it to the TIG blog as obviously the questions I raise are far too challenging for the "Agent" and the Tiggies!

Rob, I'm sure they consider it extremely witty. Schoolboys giggling behind the bike sheds!

Why isn't it a hate crime when they hate folk who don't agree with their right-on views?

Its very disappointing that with such a full Cabinet agenda tonight and major issues being discussed tonight the only one that was commented on at TIG HQ was on QEQM two weeks ago in a report that was low on fact and high on bluster.

Curious how TIG talks about organising meetings after having all the information yet theyve already booked a date for an "EMERGENCY PUBLIC MEETING THANET'S HEALTH SERVICE" on the 23rd!

Sorry to let the facts get in the way of your propaganda Mr Maskell but the meeting that you speak of is being organised from Thanet Watch. Its quite sweet to how you aim to please Mr Moores'. You never know, if a by-election comes up, he might put a good word in for you, dispite the fact that you are under 30 and don't appear to have a girl friend.

Not 'The Thanet Watch' referred to in the story? I will happily put in a word for James Maskell as he does work very hard in providing detailed independent coverage of Council business. And what's wrong with being under 30? Don't confuse my comments on experience with your own opinions on age!

Finally.. poor spelling does rather give the game away and the source of the comment and 'Dispite' rather more than anything I might add, in spite or otherwise.

Dont knock them too much Simon. Ive clearly got my facts wrong. The TIG have come out publicly indicating that such a meeting wont be needed till September at the earliest. It is being organised by Thanet Watch.

Pff, who am I kidding? This is clearly being organised by TIG but hosted by Thanet Watch to avoid claims of NHS scaremongering. Its a mutually beneficial partnership.

The thought that any partnership between those two organisations could be of benefit, mutually or otherwise, to anyone is mind blowing. Obsessed with their perception of the world's wrongs and forever protesting. What a way to live!
