Nobody Expects

The wind is strong enough this morning to get me home from west of Bournemouth in an hour and twenty minutes; bumpy is an understatement. It wasn't much better getting over there yesterday afternoon either, as I ended-up following the coast, low-level, from Bognor, just to stay visual, below the cloud and rain before heading north briefly across Sandbanks and Poole to land at a small grassy spot in the hills in a violent rainstorm.

Today was a sudden reminder that I'm in a risky line of business, when the banner I was picking-up failed catastrophically 150 feet or so above the ground as I was climbing away. The first sign of this was a lurch and a sudden bleeding-off of airspeed as my nose came-up and the weight and drag of the bundle of washing behind me, pulled my tail down. At this point everything happens quite quickly but seems to be moving in slow motion. A glance at the air-speed indicator shows I'm at the edge of a stall and there's a line of trees ahead. There's zero chance of getting over these and so the decision is an unconscious one while there's still time to recover; My left hand reaches for the emergency release and my right hand pushes the nose down to pick up enough airspeed to climb away and miss the trees.

As for the banner, that drops safely into an adjacent field, which turns out to be a half mile walk to avoid a series of streams and barbed-wire fences. Ironically, I almost filmed the entire affair with my GoPro camera but being short of time, didn't switch it on. Here's the departure towards home instead. You can see the trees that caught my attention earlier.

I was speaking to the manufacturer in the States earlier and this kind of thing is very rare, the last being in about 2006 when a huge Corona Beer advertisement, did much the same thing at Rochester, en-route to Brands Hatch. Statistically, you know there's going to be a problem either with the aircraft or the banner, every thousand hours or so and it's experience that determines whether the outcome is a happy one or not.

Meanwhile, the post brings me even more excitement today, with a letter from Thanet District Council, informing me that Cllr John Worrow has issued a 'Standards Complaint' against me, this weblog and the comments that appear here. This  alleges a 'breach of conduct' and was delivered by hand by a diversity blogging warden in a rainbow-coloured pointy hat!

I'm rather looking forward to this trial by the council's own modest version of the Spanish Inquisition and I'm hoping that sympathetic readers will send messages of support to my cell in Newgate prison while I await the verdict. I should add that I am unable to offer any evidence in my own defense and this includes the complete and unexpurgated political works of Cllr Worrow, on his different weblogs, old, new and discontinued. Once the independent sub-committee has properly assessed the alleged offense, I will be informed of their decision. But who, might you ask, sits on this committee? That's another story of course, and I expect to find myself standing on a scaffold, opposite the magistrates' court in Cecil Square quite soon!

To finish-up for today, the results of my last poll, show that 66% of readers are in favour of the UK leaving the European Union and reflects a level of public disquiet over a failed or failing European project, the politicans in Westminster really need to wake-up to. With forty-eight hours until the annual meeting of Thanet Council, I'm putting a new poll up which offers readers the opportunity of guessing how much it will cost the local taxpayer to keep Clive Hart and Labour in control of the council, in terms of special responsibility allowances to three well-known independent councillors for their vital votes?

Simon interesting that Worrow has taken you to Standards, I can not understand how Driver and Cohen have put up with this self appointed "leader" of their Group. Worrow says he is the Spokesman, but all announcements seem to come from Driver. Cohen a professional highly qualified highly intelligent experienced Cllr accepts Worrow as his leader, you could not make it up!!.
Your Blogs are the truth Worrow does not like the truth I am sure Standards will throw it out. Keep up you good work in your blogs highlighting the tiggywinkles weaknesses

How can Worrow take you to standards for your blog when his is almost invariably fantasy or unsubstantiated rumour, frequently bordering on deliberate mischief making. Surely this guy must live in cloud cuckoo land.

If you need a witness to the standard of your blog, stick a message on it and I will emerge from the shadows and contact you by email.

As a resident of Birchington South, who voted for this appalling man, I can only say that we are not stupid. Some of us are watching very closely and reading all the tripe churned out by this person and watching his demise. Is it possible that he is on a course of self destruction ? What his sexuality has to do with local politics I cannot imagine. We have all been duped, something we local residents will correct at the earliest opportunity. No I am not homophobic, I AM DISINTERESTED, and more than a little tired of his constant droning on about the one subject he claims to know something about. I am suspicious also as to who is pulling the strings of this immature and inexperienced pseudo councillor, not a very clever puppet master I imagine. However, they must enjoy their brief notoriety, it will not extend into a second term of office I bet.

Is that an independent subcommittee of an "Independent" subcommittee

Incredible! Does the complaint cover those of us who have posted comments too? Perhaps we should all turn up. 5.18,Oh that more of your fellow residents who were conned into voting for him voiced their opinions. Its certainly not worth your while doing so on the Tiggy Towers blog as it would immediately disappear! Freedom of speech Messers Worrow, Driver and Cohen...live with it!!!!

simon moores said...

Thanks for the messages of support and 'Yes' I'm afraid the complaint extends to any and all of you who may have left comments of a crirical nature!

Expect a visit from a diversity blogging warden any day soon and I'm guessing that you may be added to some kind of offenders register in due course.

A copy of my letter sent to this week's Thanet Gazette.

CHANGES FOR THE BETTER

Only Councillor Worrow could make the crass statement that the political turmoil within TDC during its first year in office has brought about "changes for the better".

For whom exactly - apart from Champion Worrow who, as a result of his prevarications, has managed to ascend the greasy pole of politics to achieve the dizzy heights of Leader of TIG - an all-male gang of three each of whom has abandoned the political party he purported to support during the elections?

The rosette Councillor Worrow sneeringly refers to is a symbol of the fundamental principles adopted and promoted by whichever political party its colour represents. It is recognised as such by voters who expect the person to whom it is attached to uphold honourably these tenets on their behalf.

During his energetic election campaign, Mr. Worrow did not hesitate to promote the Conservative manifesto, use the well-oiled Conservative administration machinery and to wear a very large Blue Rosette!

On this platform, residents of Birchington South elected him as their Conservative Councillor. They did not expect him to abandon their principles within two months of taking office for the spurious
reasons trotted out.

A fearless man of principle, sensitive to his colleagues feelings, would have been prepared to resign and present his new found beliefs to the electorate, but Councillor Worrow declined to do this in the arrogant assumption that the electors of Birchington South had voted for him and not for the Conservative Party, and such an election would incur unwelcome costs!

On this subject, it is interesting to note (and I'm sure Councillor Worrow is aware of this) that the requisite ten signatures were collected to ensure an election to fill the two vacancies on Birchington Parish Council regardless of a projected cost of £4,000 - a clear indication that democracy is worth the cost.

In the event, it was not necessary as TIG Councillors Worrow and Cohen were the only two to stand and now form part of a totally unelected Parish Council. We have all read Councillor Worrow's views on unelected Parish Councils!!!

Councillor Worrow has now been through three political parties, the Grey Party, the Conservative Party, and the Independent Party, before forming the fourth party - Thanet Independet Group. Such pogo stick politics defies all reason and one has to query how such instability could possibly bring "changes for the better" for the people of Thanet in general and Birchington in particular?

Yours faithfully,
Heather Sear,
Birchington

I wrote a complaint on the TIG blog about the childish and offensive language that was being used - my comment was deleted!

Anonymous said...

Well this TIG lot seem very tedious and should concentrate their attention on the real issues, and not stand in the way of people who wish to express an opinion, whether it tallies with their own, or mot.

More importantly, could you pleeease turn off your American spell checker and return to good old English spellings of offence and defence, to staisfy this small-c conservative?

Anonymous said...

To Heather Sear - now THAT is what I call an articulate and accurate assessment of the situation. Let's hope the Gazette prints it....?

simon moores said...

Sorry.. the auto spell checker in Google drives me crazy. I'm afraid, like sending "invites" to people, we will soon be subject to a reverse colonization (with a 'z') of the English language!

5:21 and 7:20 Birchington South Blogger it is time all those who voted for Worrow should now come out on the Blogs and air their opinions, well done for stating so clearly your concerns. Birchington South have your say, now is the time.

Julieann said...

This whole Worrow thing is infuriating. I live in Birchington and I certainly don't want to be represented by him or the TIG. Is it worth my while attending a Birch Parish Council meeting?

Anonymous said...

10:10 yes it is worthwhile there is a Parish Council Assembly meeting Monday evening in the Village Centre and this is where the Public can have their say, perhaps you would like to bring along as many Birchington South Tories as you can to let Worrow know how you feel.It is time Birchington South Conservatives voiced their disapproval of their elected Cllr

Anonymous said...

Julieann yes it is the next meeting is the Parish Assembly Monday 21st May Village Centre Birchington when you will have a chance to speak, bring along as many disaffected Conservative Voters as you can and have your say. Worrow can then explain himself.Suggest you are ther 7pm for 7.30pm

If you weren't shocked enough already, then see TIG's response to Heather Seer's letter

Quite shameful that an organisation that condemns and brands everyone that disagrees with them with some kind of ism or phobia, then thinks it is OK to describe a lady as a pig. Is that somehow not offensive!

These people are taking local governance and the standing of councillors to new depths of depravity.

i am shocked - I hope Heather Sears takes him to court both in and out of the council remit. Worrow is so out of control he should be removed from office by the Council Executive for his treatment of the public and fellow councillors. i saw the video of the last meeting and it was appalling behaviour. I feel very sorry for Alastair Bruce for having to be in the same ward - he has helped me on many occasions, and does a very good job. Jack Cohen is a let down, joining this TINY group and Birchington deserves more from their councillors.

Anonymous said...

Hope you got a copy Simon - it won't be on there long and Worrow will deny it ever happened. Is he alright in the head?

simon moores said...

I have a copy that I will take to annual Council tomorrow and I have also sent a copy to his new best friend Clive Hart for comment!

No doubt Worrow/Driver/Cohen/La Roche will say that the blog isn't under their direct management and belongs to a supporter and so they aren't responsible for what is posted on it... I think that is thre only reason it states at the top (This blog is run by David Fox, in support of TIG)
as it acts as a get out of jail free card.

I do so hope that Worrow isn't elected at the next election and I don't even live in Birchington.

I have reported a "terms of use violation" on tigs last post

Disgusted from Birchington said...

9:55 they cannot disown it because their "Leader" Worrow is the spokesman for TIG. Worow a,lso happens to be the Parish Ward Cllr for the North and TDC Cllr for the South of Birchington, he is "flying a banner" (sorry Simon on equalioty and women and then insults a leading member of Minnis Bay Watch. No he is out of control, and needs to be disciplined, better still removed from office.

Tim Clark said...

I sense a trap in their last posting. Cllr Driver is an experienced political street fighter and since he is the real power behind the Worrow throne (and possibly "David Fox" as well) he will have done this for a reason. Tread warily is my advice, and to be honest, local Conservatives need to involve Central Office now and use some of their experts.

Anonymous said...

I thought the Worrow bunch were blog wardens - how come they didn't pick this up before it was posted..... is it because they are the authors? They can't get away with that one by diverting the subject. This is right up Worrows street not actually mentioning names but making sure everyone knows who it is directed at. And clearly he is not right in the head - it's too big for his boots!!!!
La Roche is only a Parish councillor and just trying to get in with the big boys which is exactly what Worrow did pre election - Conservatives be aware and very careful who they pick next time.

Gordon Bennett said...

Well Simon as Worrow is taking you to Standards for your blog - let's get the same done to this 'so called' Dave Fox and find out if he really exists, which is highly unlikely. At least it will flush the depraved, deluded idiot out. Oh - and by the way, happy if this post is included in the Standards attack on you Simon - We're all behind you in this one doc!

Tim Clark said...

Gordon
It's tempting but I think that's what they want. The material that they are complaining about on this site is neither illegal nor offensive and there is every chance that the complaint will be dismissed out of hand. However if the pig post is raised at Standards - and to be honest it's childish rather than illegal - then TIGs will be able to say that Simon allows personal attacks on his blog but objects to them on others.
A far more fruitful approach would be for Rebecca Smith to grow a backbone and make sure that
1. She publishes the letter in full
2. She makes sure to give this scurrilous post a lambasting in her rag.
Come off the fence Rebecca, I know you read this. I can't believe that you think these people are good for the Island - Mike Pearce doesn't - start publicising this sort of stupidity for all to read.

simon moores said...

Tim.. I think the difference is that 'Standards' allow a higher bar were what they describe as 'Banter' between politicians is allowed. Thus Cllr Nottingham could allege on his weblog and elsewhere. that I was party to criminal behaviour and this was ignored by the committee but given considerable legal weight by my lawyers.

However, attacking members of the public in such a way is an entirely different matter and goes to malice rather than any reasonable sense of satire.

Gordon Bennett said...

Tim, I agree with what you are saying in part and particularly about the local paper. But Simon really hit this one on the head - to attack a member of the public and publicly on an internet side is unacceptable from a person in public office. Even if this is dismissed by Standards- and it probably will be as they never seem to take much action- mud sticks! This will be the third case against Worrow in less than six months, with more to follow no doubt. At least non bloggers will get to see him for what he is. There's also a good chance Cohen will leave a sinking ship - too late his credibility( such as it is) is in tatters.

Thanks people for letting me know when the next meeting is, I'll definitely be there. BTW 'David Fox' has 'resigned' from the TIG site and that ridiculous pig story has disappeared.

simon moores said...

There's some suspicion from the style, content, grammar and spelling that David Fox and John Worrow are one and the same person.

James Maskell said...

Interesting that the account for TIG has been renamed "Web Master". Readers may not realise its the same account that set the blog up under the name David Fox.

If David Fox exists, he would have had to hand over the login details to the account in order to post the new blog about Cllr Ezekiel, but why would he do that if it was his personal blog?

David Fox is John Worrow.

Thank you for that information James. I don't really understand these things but that is the kind of information that needs to be presented if Heather Sear takes action and I sincerely hope she does.
