How Low is Low

Tonight's annual council meeting confirmed everything I suggested in earlier predictions. So that Clive Hart can cling on to the leadership of his minority Labour administration, the renegade members of the Thanet Independent Group (TIG) have been given the three most influential and best-remunerated committee chairs- the word 'Bribe' was used pejoratively on several occasions during the debate - and no mention whatsoever was made of yesterday's personal attack on a member of the public on the TIG website. Cllr Worrow reportedly told Cllr Johnston it was nothing to do with him.

While Heather Seer was in the audience tonight hoping for some kind of apology from Cllr Worrow or even an acknowledgement of the attack made on his weblog, I have spoken with Rebecca at the Gazette and we may find out a little more about the real identity of  the mysterious TIG agent, 'David Fox', next week.

Labour, struggling under the weight of political denial and a moral deficit, also expanded their Cabinet by one post but rejected an amendment from the floor, not to increase the Members Special Responsibility Allowances, given the present harsh financial climate. What message does Labour's 'generosity', send out to a public who are struggling?.

With the cost to the taxpayer of the new positions for TIG being around £24,000, plus the cost of the Birchington free parking 'bribe' written about here before, we can add the incremental costs of a new Cabinet post for David Green. Labour, who resented the Conservatives cutting the Cabinet down to size to save money, are back to their old tricks of spending other people's money on feathering the nest. I'm sure local bloggers Tony Flaig and James Maskell will add their own cynical views but as I left the Chamber, I said to Labour's Clive Hart, that I consider myself a moral person but one disgusted by the cheap opportunistic hypocrisy of what I saw take place this evening.

Tomorrow, I'm out early flying and so I might write more when I return but given my present feelings over the entire and rather sordid night's business, it's better I think to review what happened in the cold light of day! Postscript.. an interesting analysis by James Maskell here.

TIG seem to wish to highlight the Conservatives as chauvinist pigs! So in response I commented the following... no I'm not stupid and I very much doubt to see it published, hence the copy and paste here:

"Funny how Cllrs Worrow, Driver and Cohen have managed to get themselves Chairmanships... it's... oh don't know... whats the thing... ahh yes, like buying votes? Mmmm... bribery? no, that's not right is it.

So before you start harping on about what Bayford has done a decent sized amount of the Thanet electorate feel that Hart has mamanged to prop up his narrow leadership by plaving three of TIG in positions to ensure that they will support him.

Two things likely could happen, one of those I very much doubt which means that we are now at the mercy of TIG and it's "whims"... one can only pray that the people that voted for some of you before you left your parties will see fit to ensure you never hold a position of political power ever again at the next election."

A mature and trustworthy politician who has been elected as a representative of one party or ethos, would NEVER 'change sides' whilst in office. He or she would wait until the next election and then stand under their new banner.
Mature - trustowrthy - politician? You don't often see those three words together do you, especially in Thanet!

Was it me or did the Labour group look embarrassed by the misuse of taxpayers money.

Still how ironic that Ian Driver is being rewarded having proved none to loyal to Labour and as I understand upsetting decent honest members of Labour.

Well I cannot say I am surprised having spent most of my adult life increasingly appalled at the strokes that Labour administrations can pull at all levels of governance. This, however, probably takes the biscuit for the shabbiest of all time.

We can but hope that this will come back to haunt Clive Hart and that the more decent members of the Labour group eventually get through to him.

Clive would do well to remember what happened to Faustus after he sold his soul to the Devil. If the TIGs completely bankrupt Thanet they and Labour will be wiped out at the next election.

@ Tim Clarke, unless things seriously change they have lost my vote. The only problem is who else is there to vote for? Much like national level it seems that no party offers us a solution that we can believe in anymore.

The system will have to change.

I understand that Worrow demanded, that as leader of a party, he should have a column in Gazette - note only really parties and real leaders need apply ( couldn't write anything properly in any case).
Remember this is his only chance at politics before he is consigned to the mists of oblivion.....and takes Clive with him.

Let him have his column - spelling and grammar uncorrected - then a wider audience can see what a windbag he really is.

I was amazed late last night to see that the comment I left at TIG Blog had been published and for a brief moment drifting off to sleep thought that maybe a corner had been turned regarding the opensess of said blog and debates that may be started there... oh how wrong was I, having just popped back during lunch I see that it was simply too much for "Web Master" to handle and the comment has now been removed.

A bit off thread but noticed this BBC item

and realised that Tuesday's appalling tiggy post has the Tatchell blessing.

Simon
Was it Sandy Ezekiel That made the proposal then seconded by Cllr Wise. you need him more than ever now.

Sandy is not presently a member of the Conservative Group as I'm sure you are aware.

If TIG is so diverse (at least regarding spelling), open-armed, inclusive and considers an all-male shadow cabinet to be sexist, where are the Women of TIG?

Read this first thing this morning and was far too ladylike to comment as my expletives would have deserved to be deleted. Tiggywinkle united has produced a miracle as far as my husband is concerned....I was struck dumb!

In response to the question of where the female TIGs are, I can't believe (as a woman) that any female in her right mind would join a party that treats a woman to the kind of nasty sexist rant that was their 'pig-monster' article.

Isn't this exactly what happened last year? Except this time the 'deal' hasn't gone the way of the Conservatives and so they are now crying foul play.

We have a hung council and so deals are needed to make things happen otherwise there would be chaos!!!

1 o'clock Rob, I saw your comment on the TIG site and submitted one myself. Mine never even made it into print and yours has since been removed. Democracy continues to suffer under TIG law.

See also that John Worrow's attacks on Bob Bayford continue and he gets in a dig at every opportunity. Bob's crime, of course, was to not recognise and reward John's huge ego, sorry I meant potential, tee hee, and now he is a hate figure forever more. Hell hath no fury like a Worrow scorned and all that!

simon moores said...

The difference is that which exists between Tom Kings indepent group and the renegade TIGs which we had no intention doing a deal with which is why as a majority group we are in opposition

Someone is running scared - I think TIG site has disappeared....

I see that the Blog previously to be found at http://thanetindependentgroup.blogspot.co.uk/ has disappeared up it's own backside... AKA been deleted!

What TIG site? It's gone!

simon moores said...

What a loss? Perhaps someone pressed the wrong key?

Not to worry though as I have the archives of all of its content and Cllr Worrow's former content and as an act of great political charity I may put both of these together and re-publish the lot for everyone to enjoy as a valuable political resource.. I'm not joking either Cllr Worrow!

oh, do grow up.Thanet deserves better than you lot.

simon moores said...

It may seem that way but it's very serious.

This is a group of people who now have significant influence over the lives of the population of Thanet and yet keep re-writing their history or simply 'disappearing' it altogether.

I for one think that given the number of Standards Complaints headed in Clrl Worrow's direction from members of the public in his own ward, it's important to keep this history live as a matter of record.

Would you agree?
