Spitfire Museum - Special Event 14th August

One for your diary in August. The Manston Spitfire Museum is holding a special event and here's the poster which they asked me to put up. Please support it if you can. It should be a great day out for the family:

Incidentally and for those who missed it, including the local paper, here's a photo of the banner flown over the Open Golf Championship on Sunday as Darren Clarke won. Fortunately the Daily Telegraph picked it up. I assume the Thanet Gazette's reporter was having a snooze at the time as it didn't even merit a mention in 'Smudger.'!

Advertised prominently on the TDC website of course.

Here we go again...!

I am not going to run through the explanation again other than say that the council website is not the tourism website. The council funds and suports a small number of big events each year but private events are free to send in their infomation to the tourism website which is not run by TDC.. Think VisitKent

If that's the case Simon, then why do TDC post details of some events on their home page but not others? They should at least be consistent (all or nothing), don't you agree?

Maybe I should send a FOI request to ask how they decide what they do & do not put on there.

It's very simple Peter, Lord know I've explained it enough times here to answer Michael and other's questions. I really can't be asked to explain it all again and by all means waste the tax payers money and send in an FOI request if you like. Add all the requests up over a year and you could probably fund several extra salaries for much needed jobs such as street cleaners.

Instead of your usual stupid responses how about the more positive suggestion that TDC put a bloody great hyperlink on their home page, leading to the tourism site. Wording along the lines of "if you want to know about forthcoming events click here" or similar. As an IT expert this shouldn't take you more than 5 seconds.

For the benefit of 8:38 - Ogmios or the troll or the same person I assume - there's big picture on the right of the TDC website which says "Tourism and Events" which when clicked has a link to http://www.visitthanet.co.uk/

I think that constitutes "The bloody great hyperlink" that you are referring to but it's not my portfolio anyway. Do try and understand that councillors direct policy, like the local plan. They don't spend their time fiddling with code or tweaking the councils servers.

Visit Kent handles tourism and annyone is free to upload their event details for online inclusion

Simon, in your post @ 7.54 I think you meant to say 'arsed' instead of 'asked' but are far to polite to use such language!
Maybe words of two syllables or less would be easier for some folks to understand.

At times I'm sorely tempted Mike but at times, being a councillor is much like sitting in the stocks for a four year period while members of the public pelt you with invective instead of rotting vegetables!

Simon having read your comment at 7.45 “It's very simple Peter, Lord know I've explained it enough times here to answer Michael and other's questions. I really can't be asked to explain it all again……..” it occurred to me that perhaps I failed to express just what is wrong with the way the council promoted events on the internet, so I have published a post with a highlighted illustration of the council’s homage at http://thanetonline.blogspot.com/2011/07/thanet-district-council-cllr-simon.html

I hope this serves to clarify what I mean and you will either explain how this could be right or try to rectify the problem.

I would've hoped I'd get a less sarcastic answer via a FOI request, though fortunately Michael Child has (not for the first time) explained things properly (& politely) so I won't need to do that now...

Still seems like a daft system to me, & would make far more sense if they only linked to the leisure site via the TDC home page, perhaps with a more prominent link nearer to the top.

Whoops I think I should have said homepage and not homage.

Indecently Simon I do appreciate your efforts to explain what the council are doing, realise that you don’t have to bother and that the other 51 councillors seldom try.

DrM. said...

Indecently or incidentally, thank you Michael!

Whoops again Simon, Bruv and Geyse evidently had a few beers over the weekend and have been inarticulating loudly for most of the last couple of nights in this part of Ramsgate, so we haven’t had much sleep recently. Strange how they have so much trouble with almost every word in the language apart from obscenities.

The TDC website is a shambles. The EventKent site is worse than useless. Thank Heavens for the broadcast media or we wouldn't have known about Ramsgate Week at all. Useless, the lot of you. If you're not responsible for the website then find out who is and sack them!

Fortunately Ogmios, your personal views and suggestions count for very little in this world and so I will choose to ignore them, along with the other many pearls of wisdom you care to write on local weblogs
