Irvine Residents to Meet with Council
The BBC reports that residents of Irvine Drive will get their chance to talk about the fate of the property at a meeting with the council this week.
Thanet District Council have already stated that it will "Seek the views of the residents and the families of the victims before we make any decision" on the future of the property and Ward councillor,Edwin Watt-Ruffell, commenting on the tragic story that has unfolded in the street over the last week, said: "It's an ordinary community, there are young people, disabled and elderly. It is a normal mixture of people, working class and middle class.
He added: "We are meeting with the residents and the vicar and there will be a briefing on Thursday at the council offices about the future of Irvine Drive. "I can't say any more than that at the moment."

I can't see demolishing the house serves any purpose. Putting in a memorial garden as in the case of Fred West's house will just in my own opinion leave an open wound. Time heals. Furthermore, when you move into a house you have no idea whats gone on in it, all kinds of horrible things may have occured.

Knock it down and leave the area to grass and trees. I wouldn't want to live on a cemetry and certainly not where the two victims buried there met such a dreadful end. 12.34 it is not a question of 'may have' it did occur!

Can we honestly afford to knock down every house in which a tragedy has occurred ? Let's be practical here, we have a housing crisis in Thanet and removing the house won't remove the stigma, no more than demolishing 25 Cromwell Street did. An open space on the site will be like a gaping wound in the terrace of houses remaining, serving as a constant reminder of what happened to those poor girls. How about using the house as a sort of refugee/asylum seeker halfway house ? These people have already seen terrible things that they are allegedly fleeing from and this house is better than no house isn't it ?
Incidentally, I lived in a house in Herne Bay where the previous occupant hanged herself, my present home, which I bought with the full history explained to me, saw an elderly woman pass away in tragic circumstances and she remained unfound for 3 months. I had the house blessed and have no concerns about what happened here. If these poor girls had been concealed inside the house (under the floorboards for example) I could understand superstition. They are at rest now, found and identified and at peace, they won't be bothering new occupants.

How is the decision about what happens to this house anything to do with TDC?
Do they own it?

8:33 you didn't read my entry clearly. I do not deny what occured there, I said that all kind of dreadful things happen behind closed doors, when you move into a house you do not know what may have occured there.

More a statement of fact, no longer casual Labour Ted but Conservative Edwin in a suit. Don't you find that a bit odd.

It may fool the public but not us hacks who have been around the block. Good luck to the bloke with his new identity but you cannot erase history.
