BBC reports says ..45-year-old man who died in hospital after he was found collapsed outside a Ramsgate pub is thought to have been attacked by people he knew.
Unemployed Walter Greenidge was found on the ground after an incident near the Cherry Orchard pub on Monday.

Appealing for the offenders to come forward, Ch Supt Peter West said: "It appears Mr Greenidge was attacked by people who knew him".

Reading the Daily Mail today, I am horrified at the levels of violence that we meekly seem to be accepting in this country. When are we going to reclaim the streets from the youth ? When are we actually going to say enough is enough ? I do not think it wise to tackle gangs to kids personally, and I would actively stop my husband from approaching them if our property was under attack, but surely one of the best ways is to photograph them and publish the pictures of them in action. What about a 'name and shame' blogsite for just that purpose ?

The Mail covered two stories of respectable law-abiding citizens taking exception to yobbish behaviour being set apon by those they had the temerity to challenge and being murdered as a result. It is interesting that 1.00 am cites a drug involvement for the late Mr Greeidge that puts a different slant on the matter, if true, but it does bring attention to the murder rate in Thanet this year; has it risen dramatically and how many have we now had?

Do we as law abiding citizens intervene and assist in maintaining the Queen's Peace despite the lack of Police presence on our streets and the inherent risk to our own safety or do we cower in our houses? What annoys me is the failure of Government and Police to accept that the British people have been progressively dis-armed over the years on the promise that our personal safety and security would be taken care of by the Police and all the evidence indicates that they are clearly unable to do so. If I have need to intervene I will only do so with a tyre lever to hand if in my car and if from my house, a Claymore that can be lifted quickly from its wall mounting; I have always wanted to re-enact that scene from Crocodile Dundee!

As I recall another man by the name Greenidge was running a drug operation out of one of the tower blocks in Ramsgate earlier this year when raided by Police, it was in the IOTG if memory serves. I remember the same name from nearly 30 years a go

Annon 17:14, your memory serves you well. They are a big family and their reputation does stand up.Whatever anybody thinks you have to admire the comments of June Greenidge in todays Gazette. There are not many people who can act with dignity under such circumstances and in a case like this there is always more than one victim.

Many years ago myself and two friends were walking along marine terrace. On the other side of the road we saw a group of about ten coming out of the Ruby Lounge. They saw us and walked over to us shouting abuse. We ran with them chasing after us. We split I went towards the harbour, one mate went up fort hill and the other mate down King Street,They all chased me and I was cornered. One hit me and I went down, one of them who was one of the Greenidges said lick my shoe before we do you. I lent forward to lick his shoe, but I lurched up and hit him in the stomach and caught them all by surprise.I ran off down the harbour slipway. Greenidge was shouting "Kill the Bastard". Some chased me down into the harbour, the rest ran along marine terrace. Fortunately I knew my way around the harbour even in the dark and was able to avoid the soft mud and gullies. I reached the boating pool. I could see the rest of the gang by the King steps so I ran along the boating pool wall up the beach and down eaton road and lost them. What goes round comes round.
